What we help with
You don't have to do it all alone.
High-functioning men under pressure
You're capable, responsible, and used to handling a lot. But stress, self-criticism, burnout, anxiety, or irritability may be catching up with you, even when life looks fine from the outside.
Men dealing with relationship conflict
Maybe the same argument keeps happening, communication shuts down, or you are trying to navigate marriage, separation, or co-parenting without losing yourself in the process.
New or overwhelmed fathers
Fatherhood can change your identity, your relationship, your responsibilities, and the amount of pressure you carry. Therapy can help you make sense of that shift and become more intentional about the kind of father and partner you want to be.
Men skeptical of therapy
Maybe you're not sure therapy is for you. Maybe you tried it once and it did not land. Sessions with me are collaborative, practical, and focused on understanding what is actually happening beneath the patterns you want to change.
You don't have to wait until things fall apart.
You might be used to pushing through, handling things on your own, or keeping it all together for everyone else. That can work for a while. But it often leads to feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from what actually matters.
Therapy is not about proving that something is wrong with you. It is a place to slow the pattern down enough to understand it, widen your options, and practice responding with more intention.
Greater clarity
Understand what is driving recurring thoughts, reactions, and relationship patterns.
Stronger relationships
Communicate more clearly and respond with more intention, at home, at work, and in your community.
A steadier internal response
Build more room between what you feel and what you do next.
John's approach
Direct, collaborative, and insight-oriented.
John Ebenezer, Registered Associate Marriage & Family Therapist #146079 working under the clinical supervision of Rachel Ruiz, LCSW.
I'm not interested in giving you a generic script for how you're supposed to feel. I ask a lot of questions, and I pay attention to the patterns underneath what is happening now.
That might mean looking at why the same argument keeps repeating, why pressure turns into shutdown or irritability, why you know what to do but still cannot seem to do it, or how earlier relationships shaped the way you handle closeness, conflict, responsibility, and stress today.
Our sessions are collaborative. We can build practical skills when they are useful, but we will also work to understand the pattern itself. The goal is not endless analysis. It is greater awareness, more emotional range, and more choices in the moments that matter.
"Change happens when you feel understood, challenged, and supported."
In his words, John Ebenezer, AMFT

FAQ
Questions men actually ask
What if I've never done therapy before?
That's common. You do not need to know what to talk about or come in with the right words. We can start with what is happening, what is not working, and what you want to be different.
What if I'm not sure therapy is for me?
You do not have to be convinced that therapy is the answer before you show up. We can talk plainly about what you want help with, what you have already tried, and whether this approach makes sense for you.
Is this just going to be talking about my childhood?
Not necessarily. We will focus on what is happening in your life now. Sometimes earlier experiences help explain why a current reaction or relationship pattern carries so much weight. When that connection is useful, we can explore it. The goal is to understand what is affecting the present.
What happens during the first session?
The first session is about understanding what is bringing you in, what you would like to be different, what you have already tried, and what patterns may be contributing to the problem. You do not need to arrive with everything figured out.
Can I work on relationship problems if my partner is not coming to therapy?
Yes. Individual therapy can help you understand your part of a recurring pattern, communicate more clearly, notice what gets activated during conflict, and become more intentional about how you respond. Individual therapy is different from couples therapy, but relationship concerns can absolutely be part of the work.
Do you offer in-person and telehealth sessions?
Yes. In person in El Dorado Hills and Folsom, with telehealth available throughout California.
Is therapy confidential?
Therapy is confidential within the limits required by law and professional ethics. Those limits and Woven's privacy practices are reviewed during informed consent.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
There is no single timeline that fits everyone. The pace depends on what brings you in, what you want to work on, your history, and how the work develops. We can talk openly about goals, progress, and whether therapy continues to feel useful.
